ENFORCEABLE FROM MARCH 2021 ALL TRUCKS WITH A GROSS WEIGHT OVER 12 TONNES NOW REQUIRE A HGV SAFETY PERMIT TO ENTER LONDON.
Through Transport for London’s Direct Vision Standard (DVS) scheme, vehicles will be awarded a star rating from 0 – 5 based on the amount of direct vision the driver has through the windows when seated in the cab. Star ratings can be obtained via your vehicle manufacturer.
Indirect vision aids (known as Safe Systems) such as cameras, proximity sensors and audible warning alarms may be required to improve the view the driver has, to protect vulnerable road users including walkers and cyclists.
If you drive an HGV within Greater London without a valid permit you may receive a penalty charge notice (PCN) of up to £550.
Vehicles with existing permits can have them revoked or suspended, if those vehicles are later found to be in breach of the permit terms.
With over 20 years in the commercial vehicle safety industry you can rely on our friendly team at Backwatch to help you to ensure DVS Safe System compliance. We will make sure your vehicle is fitted with the safety aids required to meet all the statutory criteria, and meet the ongoing demands of regulation.
A basic safety requirement for many modern fleets. Proximity sensors can be provided to cover any area of your vehicle. Our combined camera and sensor system displays both camera images and sensor display on one 9″ monitor for reduced driver distraction. New for 2019 Radar sensors also now available.
Digital video recorders provide irrefutable evidence to protect your business and drivers against increasing incidences of fraudulent accident claims, whilst assisting with driver management and training. A wide variety of DVRs are available from single to 8 camera systems, with inbuilt GPS showing vehicle speed and route taken.
A wide and varied range of cameras are available from Backwatch that give unparalled views to eliminate blind spots. Available in Standard and high definition for ultra-clear images. They not only help reduce damage to your vehicle through safer easier manoeuvring but also and perhaps more importantly that extra view may help your driver spot a child in a blind spot.
Selecting the best solution for your vehicles is of paramount importance. The right system can significantly reduce the time spent resolving disputes and dealing with unnecessary accident claims. The cost of installation is a small price to pay in reducing potential casualties or loss of life. Can you afford to take that risk?
We are especially proud to be founding members of the Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme (FORS). Products are fully certified and have been approved as Direct Vision Standard (DVS) Transport for London compliant.
Backwatch are delighted with the recent feedback received from Tristan from Klarner’s Coaches. He said “We will be coming to yourselves for the systems or any parts required due to the excellent customer service and back up we get. Both yourself (Emma) and Andrew have been extremely helpful and know exactly what we need when ordering”.
